Controversy surrounds resignation

2015-08-13 06:00

ONE of Jeffreys Bay’s top primary schools, Victory Christian School (VCS), has been plunged into controversy over the sudden resignation of its principal, Fanie Vermaak.

The reason behind his sudden resignation is still very sketchy, but rumours have it that the resignation had come about over differences of opinion on the direction the school was taking.

According to Nico Serfontein, VCS Governing Body Chairman, Vermaak resigned at his own election from his position of principal on August 7.

“VCS has elected to accept this immediate resignation, with August 7 marking Vermaak’s last day of employment at VCS,” says Serfontein.

“We thank Vermaak for his service and contribution over the years and wishes him well for his future endeavours.”

However, parents and those connected to the school, say they are angry about the way the situation has been handled.

A VCS parent, who asked not to be named, says a distinguished school with a reputation to uphold should not be surrounded by rumour and speculation.

According to one of the teachers at VCS, Vermaak has not done anything wrong and a great injustice is being done to him. “The staff of VCS are right behind him. He is a man of integrity,” she says. “The rumours doing the rounds at the moment are void of any truth.”

According to Serfontein, VCS will as soon as possible put steps in place to appoint a new principal.

“An announcement will me made shortly with regard to an interim acting principal,” says Serfontein
