OM dokter te word.

Dít is die droom van Duwayne Sysaar (19) van Humansdorp.

Met sy ouma as inspirasie het Duwayne vanjaar die eerste tree gegee om die droom te bewaarheid nadat hy as die top-student in die Aanvullende Gesondheid NQF Vlak 1-kursus van Workforce Solutions aangewys is. Duwayne se medestudente het hom die bynaam Professor gegee; nie net omdat hy die top-student is nie, maar oor hy die enigste man in ’n klas van 20 studente was.

“Ek is goed bang gepraat oor die kraamgedeelte van die kursus en almal het gesê ek gaan flou val. Dít het darem nie gebeur nie, en ek het darem ook nie weggehardloop nie,” sê hy.

Duwayne vertel die resep vir sy sukses is uithouvermoë en selfvertroue.

Hoewel hy nie na skool keuring gekry het om medies te studeer nie, is die voormalige leerder van die Humandorp Sekondêre Skool vasbeslote om sy prestasie te gebruik om eendag ’n dokter te word.

Die volgende tree op sy droom-pad is om as verpleegstudent by die Lilitha Kollege van Verpleging in Port Elizabeth aanvaar te word. En dan dokter . . .

Volgens Duwayne inspireer sy grootmaak-ouma hom. “My ouma is iemand wat vir haar medemens omgee en altyd help. Ek wil in haar voetspore volg. Ek wil mense in nood help en lewens probeer red,” sê Duwayne.

“Ek het op ’n jong ouderdom besluit dat ek vir haar en my ouers wil werk. Om vir hulle te kan sorg, moet ek ’n goeie salaris vedien.”
