Entry procedure for JBU Supertrial announced

2015-04-30 17:15

WITH only three months left before the an- nual Jeffreys Bay WinterFest takes the town by storm, the organisers of the JBU Supertrial have announced the strict entry procedure for this contest.

The 2015 JBU Supertrial presented by RVCA will see 24 selected surfers competing for one coveted position into the WSL Cham-pionship Tour’s JBay Open, where they’ll compete against the best surfers on the planet.

The JBay Open forms part of the annual JBay Winterfest and is event six out of eleven events on the World Surf League (WSL) Men’s Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour. The event is set to take place from July 8 to 19, with a prize pool of more than R6 million up for grabs.

To enter, surfers need to enter the event. They will not be automatically invited into the event based on their surfing skills or contest record.

All entries must be done via the Zigzag magazine’s website at www.zigzag.co.za/supertrial.

With their entries, surfers must convice the selectors why they are worthy of a slot into the Supertrial. This can be in the form of a video clip, an action photo, a video interview wherein they state their case, a few written paragraphs explaining their worthiness or any other form that they believe will secure them an entry into the event.

“We want to see why you feel you are worthy to be in such a significant event,” says event organiser and JBU representative Koffie Jacobs. “We simply want the best 24 South African surfers in the event, the cream of the crop, and we need to work out who you guys are. It’s up to you to tell us.”

Selection will be via a panel, consisting of representatives from the World Surf League (WSL), The JBay Underground Surf Club (JBU) and Zigzag Surfing Magazine. The Supertrial is only open to South African surfers.

The entry requirements must be adhered to in order to stand a chance of being invited into the contest that has a waiting period from June 1 - 12
