BUSTIERS made from gum wrappers, miniskirts adorned with pop tops and sheer blouses created with discarded linens.
Expect to see all this and more at the fourth annual Global Leadership Academy (GLA) Trashy Fashion Show on September 4, where models will prance along the catwalk looking gorgeous in their garbage.
The show is aimed at encouraging youth and adults of all ages to get creative and construct outfits made entirely from recyclable materials for a chance to win great prizes.
Businesses and individuals in and around Jeffreys Bay can sponsor or enter a dress at a cost of R350.
So, get creative and start designing your dress. All outfits must be made from recyclable material; however, it can be lined with normal material. Participants can use items from the office such as business cards and packaging; as well as garbage bags, bottle caps, plastic bottles, tin cans, bubble wrap and string.
This year, a panel of judges has been appointed and participants will compete in various age categories: junior primary (1 - 8 years), senior primary (9 - 13 years), high school (14 - 18 years) and open (19 years and up).
Prizes will be awarded for the following categories: Most Original Dress, Miss Personality, Public Favourite, Biggest Variety of Recycled Goods Used, Characters Built out of Recycled Goods, Most Creative Accessories, and Most Creative Dress.
The winners will be announced in the Kouga Express of September 10.
Loads of tasty homemade goods will be on sale, and live music will entertain the crowd.
Funds raised will go towards the building of GLA’s Eco Campus, a multi-functional educational facility with an international green rating. The facility will encompass a school, sport facilities and housing for learners.
The GLA Trashy Fashion Show will take place at GLA’s Eco Campus opposite Fountains Mall on September 4.
