Start knitting for Nomvula’s kint festival

2015-07-09 06:00

THE third Nomvula’s Knit Festival and Competition is set to take place in St Francis Bay from 24 to 26 September 2015.

The event is sponsored by SAMIL/South African Expressions and SAPROTEX and the theme for this year is

Wear-able Art.

The festival workshops will concentrate on mastering techniques and understanding form and design. Guest lecturer, well known crochet and quilt teacher, Doortjie Gersbach will be showing her jacket created with crochet and intarsia knitting as an inspiring piece of wearable art. Workshops will be hosted at various venues in St Francis and are available for both the avid enthusiast and beginners at R120 per session. The full schedule can be found on the Nomvula’s Knitters website at www.knitters.co.za.

A highlight of the festival is the annual Knitter’s competition which anyone can enter for an entry fee of R30 and as with the festival, the theme is Wearable Art. “Knitters are invited to submit a piece of wearable art such as a shawl, booties, slippers – anything wearable,” says Frances Becker founder of the Knit Fest and Nomvula’s Knitters.

“Entries can also include tea cosies, hot water bottle covers and even doggie attire! There is plenty of room for creativity and fun and all details on how to enter can also be found on our website – www.knitters.co.za.

“This year’s competition winners will be rewarded with generous prizes from our sponsors and we are delighted that Rita Guillome, a lecturer in Knitwear and Design at NNMU in Port Elizabeth will be judging the competition.”

For more information, registration and entry forms contact Nomvula’s Knitters at 042 294 0882 or send and email to nomvulasknitters@gmail.com. Alternatively visit the shop at 167 St Francis Drive
