Tax SMS scam alert

2015-07-23 06:01

WITH the tax return filing date open, fraudsters are again targeting countless taxpayers with their elaborate scam.

Promising a ‘believable’ windfall, it is by no means only the ignorant who are duped. Unsuspecting taxpayers receive an SMS from “SARS eFiling Alert”, informing them that they qualify for a tax credit payment by the South African Revenue Service E-Filing. The victim is then prompted to send his or her banking details.

When the scammers are equipped with the necessary information, they can steal funds from your account at any time.

Sars warns taxpayers to be extra vigilant.

Sars urges all taxpayers to rather contact them at 0800 007 277, should they be unsure about any Sars-related payments
