“I know that young people are often attracted to bad things. So, I decided to unite them through soccer once a year. Who knows, we just might produce players that will represent the region at professional level,” says Vumazonke.

According to Vumazonke, the tournament will be bigger and better next year. “We hope to make this an annual event. Next year we will include more soccer teams, as well as netball and rugby teams from the area. We also hope to involve various stakeholders such as the Department of Health, the Department of Social Development and the local police.”

A special thank you goes to Andili Ngcingolo, Mandla Sihewula, Xabiso Nkosinkulu and Thabo Hermanus. “Without their support this tournament would not have been possibble,” says Vumazonke.
