A KwaNomzamo-based football team made it two in a row when they triumphed in the finals of the 2018/19 Mayor’s Cup Soccer tournament.

All Stars were crowned the Mayor’s Cup champions after beating Peace Lovers from St Francis 1-0 in a thrilling final played at the Tokyo Sexwale Stadium in Jeffreys Bay.

The teams beat Thornhill’s United Brothers and the St Francis Links in the semi-finals.

Kouga Mayor Horatio Hendricks thanked the local football fraternity for their fantastic support of the tournament. “More than 40 teams participated this year and we look forward to growing the tournament in the years to come,” he said.

Mongezi Khatshiwe, president of the All Stars, said the club was thrilled to have won the coveted Mayor’s Cup again.

“Our players have been very focused and have the support of a committed management team. Together, this makes for a formidable team that isn’t easily beaten,” he said.

He thanked the Mayor for his support of sport in general.

“We are especially pleased that he is supporting soccer as it is a mass participation sport through which many lives can be touched.”
