Amica: a star in the making

BESIDES maintaining her position as the Woodridge Grade 11 Dux student, Amica de Jager has also found the time to achieve remarkable results in aquatics.

At the Eastern Province (EP) Open Water events held at Settlers Dam during February, Amica claimed both the EP 3km and 5km Open Water Swimming Provincial Titles. She was also placed second in the prestigious Spar River Mile (same position as 2015).

At the East Cape Surf Lifesaving Championships, Amica achieved the following results:

. East Cape u.17 Ladies’ Competitor of the Competition (Victrix Ludorum)

. East Cape u.17 Ladies’ Surf Swim Champion

. East Cape Senior Ladies’ Surf Swim Champion

. East Cape u.17 Ladies’ Run Swim Run Champion

. East Cape u.17 Ladies’ Single Ski Champion

. East Cape u.17 Ladies’ Ironman Champion

. East Cape u.17 Ladies Malibu Board - se-cond place

. East Cape u.17 Ladies Long Run - third place

To top an awesome season, Amica was a member of the EP Team who competed at the SA National Open Water Championships held at Grabouw in the Western Cape this past weekend. At this event, Amica came first overall in the SA 3km event and is the 2016 SA u.18 3km Champion. In the Olympic 5km event, Amica ended fourth overall in a time of 1hr 05min 05sec, less than 70 seconds behind Olympic swimmer and SA Champion Mi- chelle Webber (1hr 04min 08sec).

Amica swims at Woodridge College and is trained by Woodridge swim coach Haydn Holmes of Liquid Lines Unsalted.

Amica will be competing for Woodridge Surf Lifesaving Club at the SA National Surf Lifesaving Championships to be held at King’s Beach on March 18 to 20.
