AFRICA’S largest family beach event, the aQuellé Ocean Racing Series, returns to Hobie Beach this Sunday for the start of season 14, with no fewer than seven events for families to choose from each race day.

The series, which is unique to Nelson Mandela Bay, offers family members the ideal way to get fit while making the most of the world class beaches which our city has to offer with something for everyone.

The series takes place on mostly alternate Sunday morning’s at 09:00 and includes a 5km beach run, 5km beach walk, a kids’ 12 years and under 1km beach run and no fewer than four separate swim distances for the open water swimmers including a 400m, 1km, 2km and 3km ocean swim.

All races run simultaneously with all finishers receiving a chilled aQuellé flavoured water and entry into the lucky draw prize-giving, which follows immediately after the last participant completes the course.

The kids aged from 1 to 12 have a separate age appropriate prize-giving on the beach from 10:00 with age group medals for the top three in age groups six years and under (6u), 8u, 10u and 12u.

With a dozen or more lucky draws up for grabs each race day, including the sought after R500 Greenacres shopping voucher, the kids’ prize giving is a very festive inclusion in the programme.

Overall top three medals are up for grabs in the other six events with prize-giving taking place on the beach from around 10:15, with another dozen or more lucky draws from local businesses including the feature prize of a R1 500 Greenacres Shopping Centre voucher.

After each race day, the series social media partner, Oracle Media, uploads over 400 pictures of the morning’s activities onto the series’ Facebook page for sharing.

Premier membership, at R1 000 for the swim or R500 for the beach events, is available to those who are keen to pay upfront for all 10 race days and comes with an awesome discount package deal which includes a branded shopping bag, long sleeve T-shirt, silicone branded race number wrist band and a free cappuccino before each race as well as an assortment of discounts from local companies.

Premier membership for the under 12 kids’ beach run is just R500 and includes a drawstring bag, a branded race vest and a silicone branded wrist band. Series Membership is a once off R50 and if signing up before this weekend, you will receive a branded drawstring bag.

On the day entry fees are R150 for swim events and R100 for beach events, with series members paying just R100 and R50 respectively.

For the swim events the colour coded aQuellé branded swim caps are compulsory and will be available at just R30 for a silicone swim cap.

The Masakhane Future Stars programme, supported by Caltex Eastern Cape and Greenacres Shopping Centre, affords previously disadvantaged youth the opportunity to take part in the series and this season will also be supporting the local Ketsh Up group which was formed to motivate more women from all walks of life to acquire cycling and swimming skills to destroy stereotypes and diversify the tri-scene.

Online registration is available from website with a meet and greet registration function on Friday evening at News Cafe, between 18:00 and 20:00.

Lucky draws prizes will also be up for grabs with the feature prize being a wetsuit from the series wetsuit partner, Blusmooth, and a massive hamper from naming partner, aQuellé.
