DIE Kouga-munisipaliteit het in Oktober gasheer gespeel vir kus-munisipaliteite van regoor die land toe die nasionale bekendstelling van die 2017/2018 Blouvlag-seisoen plaasgevind het op Jeffreysbaai.

Die dorp se hoofstrand, Dolfynstrand, was een van 44 strande wat Blouvlag-status ontvang het by die geleentheid wat, onder meer, deur Toerisme Minister Tokozile Xasa bygewoon is.

St Francisbaai se kanale het ook vir die eerste keer Blouvlag Marina-status ontvang.

Kouga-burgemeester Elza van Lingen het gesê dat die Blouvlag-program deel uitmaak van die munisipaliteit se planne vir toerisme-ontwikkeling.

“Die munisipaliteit se voorbereidings vir die feesseisoen is voorts goed op dreef,” het sy gesê.

“Ons is ook dankbaar dat die Oos-Kaapse Departement vir Paaie die padlyne op hoof-roetes in Jeffreysbaai tans opknap. Hulle beoog ook om padlyne op St Francisbaai se hoofroetes oor te verf, maar het ons laat weet dat dit eers in die nuwe jaar sal plaasvind.”

Kouga hosts national Blue Flag event

KOUGA Municipality successfully hosted this year’s national Blue Flag season launch at Dolphin Beach in Jeffreys Bay in October.

The event was attended by Tourism Minister Tokozile Xasa, as well as all municipalities and entities that received Blue Flag status for the coming summer season.

Dolphin Beach at Jeffreys Bay once again got the nod to fly the Blue Flag, joining 43 other beaches, seven marinas and 11 sustainable tourism boats around South Africa.

Another addition to Kouga’s achievement was the St Francis Canals, which received Blue Flag Marina status for the first time.

Kouga Mayor Elza van Lingen said the Blue Flag programme was part of the municipality’s ongoing efforts to grow Tourism in the area.

“Our preparations for the upcoming summer season are also on track, so as to ensure that the municipality is ready for the influx of visitors expected in all our towns,” she said.

She said the Department of Roads and Public Works would be repainting traffic circles and lines along the main access roads in Jeffreys Bay.

“We have also requested that those at St Francis Bay be done, but unfortunately, the Department will only be able to do so in the new year.”
