A sandbox for grown-ups. With a twist of water. And maybe a little bit of 4x4 sweat and gears for good measure.

Engage low range and head over to Brakkeduine for some off-road thrills and spills when the Nico Malan Brakkeduine 4x4 Challenge roars to life at 08:00 on Saturday, June 11. This challenge will pit man and machine against each other in an effort to see whose vehicle can complete a variety of tricky courses in the fastest time.

The Brakkeduine 4x4 Trail, situated a few kilometres from Jeffreys Bay, is a 14km long circular trail that has a grading of three to five. There are a number of tricky areas, particularly due to the loose sand. It takes a minimum of three hours to complete, but some drivers choose to do it over the course of up to 24 hours.

The route, starting at the Klipdrift Dam, offers some escape options at particularly challenging spots so that those drivers with less experience can opt out.

The terrain is made up of sandy stretches, dunes and some bushy parts, along with some impressive ascents and descents.

The entry fee is R300 per vehicle. Funds raised will go towards the Nico Malan High School in Humansdorp.

The GPS coordinates to the Brakkeduine 4x4 Trail is S34.13383 E24.57539.
