Cansa: Relay for Life: donate a candle or two

2017-02-16 06:02

WITH just weeks left before the Cansa Relay for Life on Friday, March 17, teams must hurry if they would still like to enter.

The cancer association in Jeffreys Bay is calling all residents and businesses to parti-cipate in this year’s Relay for Life at Fountains Mall at 18:30 on March 17.

The official opening will take place at 19:00, which will be followed by a survivors’ walk.

Community members can become involved in this memorable event by actively taking part in the relay, recruiting and assembling teams, seeking community support, securing donated refreshments and prizes and lending their support in any way,” says Selina van Deventer, manager of CANSA in Jeffreys Bay.

“We need all the support we can get to make CANSA’s Relay for Life for 2017 an unforgettable event. It is a fun, indoor fundraising event where teams take turns to walk around the track.

According to Van Deventer, the local Relay for Life raises much-needed funds for Cansa’s services in Jeffreys Bay and surrounding areas. All the money raised during the event will be used for cancer research and to assist cancer patients in financial need.

Prizes for the best dressed team, as well as for the team that generates the most funds, will be up for grabs.

The different fun walk themes are funny hat, pyjamas, recycle, Cansa must fall, heroes, and school clothes.

The theme of the evening is men’s health.

The entry fee is R500 per team and can be paid into Cansa’s Absa bank account at account number 1157140058. The reference RFL 2017 JBay followed by your team’s name must be used.

The proof of payment must be emailed to

Lumenaria bags

Lumenaria bags, in memory of a cancer survivor or to those who have lost the battle against cancer, are available at R10 each from Van Deventer.

Donate a candle

Cansa Jeffreys Bay is in need of 700 long stick candles for the Lumenaria bags. Donations of candles will be highly appreciated. Candles can be dropped off at the Our Times Office in 75 Da Gama Road before or on March 3.

Community members interested in becoming involved in this fun-filled event, can contact Van Deventer at 084 513 6959.
