Cansa Relay for Life this Friday

2016-03-10 06:00

A NIGHT of fun, family, friends, survivors and suppor-ters . . .

Enthusiastic supporters will take over Fountains Mall this Friday in support of the annual Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) Relay for Life.

The cancer association in Jeffreys Bay is calling all re-sidents and businesses to participate in this year’s Relay for Life at Fountains Mall at 18:30 on March 11.

The official opening will take place at 19:00, which will be followed by a survivors’ walk at around 19:20. All the teams will take to the track after the survivors’ walk.

The Lumenaria event is scheduled for approximately 19:45 during which team members will help to light the candles in front of them. Those attending are kindly reques-ted to bring a lighter to light the candles.

After ten minutes of silence the Relay for Life will kick off in all earnest - and then the fun starts.

Prizes for the best dressed team, as well as for the team that generates the most funds, will be up for grabs.

The different fun walks are back to school at 21:00, funny hats at 22:00, pajamas at 23:00, wedding at 24:00, homeless person at 01:00, sport wear at 02:00, vintage at 03:00 and recycling at 04:00.

“Community members can become involved in this memorable event by actively taking part in the relay, recruiting and assembling teams, seeking community support, securing donated refreshments and prizes and lending their support in any way,” says Selina van Deventer, manager of CANSA in Jeffreys Bay.

“We need all the support we can get to make CANSA’s Relay for Life for 2016 an unforgettable event. It is a fun, indoor fundraising event where teams take turns to walk around the track.

According to Van Deventer, the local Relay for Life raises much-needed funds for Cansa’s services in Jeffreys Bay and surrounding areas. All the money raised during the event will be used for cancer research and to assist cancer patients in financial need.

Community members interested in becoming involved in this fun-filled event, can contact Van Deventer at 084 513 6959 or Tersia Strydom at 082 494 1453.
