Crazy Ties Big Band to perform at NMMU

2016-01-28 06:00

NMMU Department of Music in association with Goethe-Institut in Germany proudly presents the very first concert of the year, celebrating with the Music Department, as they celebrate their 50th Anniversary.

The Metropolis of Meissen is part of the Federal State of Saxony and combines the cities of Radebeul, Meissen, Coswig, Riesa and Grossenhain. In every city there is a Music School. In 2009 all Music Schools in the area were combined to form the Music School Meissen, with an estimate of 5 000 scholars of all ages. Tuition is given for all traditional instruments as well as singing and dancing. In addition to the individual tuition given the scholars have the added advantage to receive tuition in ensembles playing. As an example they have a Symphony orchestra, several string orchestras, guitar ensembles and several others.

The Crazy Ties Big Band is still a young ensemble of the Music school of the district Meissen. The members are both students and teachers of the Music school. Their first performance as a Big Band, was at the annual Advent concert in the Marien church to Grossenhain in 2011. At first the band was only intended as a project for this concert. But the members of the band decided to continue this project. Thus, the Crazy Ties Big Band was formed and under the direction of Winfried Jupt, with a varied repertoire since May 2012, they have toured through Europe and visited Southern Africa in 2014.

Concert patrons will have the pleasure in experiencing well-known swing standards and classics from funk and soul, both purely instrumental and with vocals.

The concert will be held at the NMMU South Campus Auditorium at 13:00 on February 10. For more information, contact Nicky Bosman a 041 504 4235.
