YOLANDE de Villiers started Women’s Month in dominant fashion when she claimed a convincing victory in the Glacier Storms River Traverse in the Tsitsikamma Forest on Sunday. After winning the first two stages, De Villiers took the final 54-kilometre stage in a time of 2:09.She was not only the first female rider home but finished first overall in a time of 6:12 – 36 minutes ahead of the first solo male in Vincent Hill.“This is for all the women out there. If you can believe it you can do it,” said a delighted De Villiers, who was using this popular three-day stage race to finish her preparations for next weekend’s Trans Baviaans where she will defend her Mixed Teams title with Neill Ungerer.“In that sense it was an almost perfect race for me. I’m very grateful. I’m feeling good for next weekend. It’s now just a case of resting and eating well and making sure I don’t get sick. Then it’s race on next weekend.”The Glacier Storms River Traverse raised R50 000 for The Smile Foundation, the official charity of the event.
