2016-09-29 06:00

THE Kouga Catholic community is set to host a five-day St Francis of Assisi Festival - celebrating the Dedication of the Church of St Francis of Assisi in Humansdorp, as well as the feast of St Francis of Assisi.

According to the Pastor of the Kouga Catholic Community, Fr Paul Fahy, the festival will primarily focus on a series of liturgical and spiritual events within the Catholic community.

“This festival provides us with a wonderful opportunity to draw new insights and inspiration from our beloved Saint Francis, and discover his relevance for our world today.”

A Solemn Pets Blessing Ceremony will form part of the festivities that will take place from October 1 to 5. The ceremony, presented in association with the Humansdorp SPCA, will take place in the parking lot of the Church of St Francis of Assisi in Humansdorp from 14:00 on October 1. The ceremony will be followed by a pet parade.

The ceremony is open to all members of the public, as well as their pets.

The entrance fee for pets is one item of pet food for the residents of the SPCA in Humansdorp. All pets must be on a leash.

Boerewors rolls, curry bunnies, pancakes, cake, tea and second-hand books will be on sale at the event. The proceeds will be divided between the SPCA and Catholic Church.

According to the Pastor of the Kouga Catholic Community, Fr Paul Fahy, the festival will primarily focus on a series of liturgical and spiritual events within the Catholic community.

Anyone is welcome to attend the festivities.
