WEG met indringer-bome.

Lede van die Dorp van Drome in Jeffreysbaai het die taak aangepak om die “dorstige dennebome” - ’n indringer spesie - in Noorsekloof en omliggende gebiede onder beheer te kry, voordat dit inheemse plante bedreig.

Dromers Alan Wright, Rianne en Tommie Walter, asook Greg Anderson van Garden Guru, het verlede Woensdag vier groot dennebome oorkant Verbana Villas in Verbenasirkel afgekap.

Die bome sal later met inheemse bome vervang word. Daar is reeds 18 bome by die oop stuk grond geplant.

Volgens Rianne Walter, wat haar daaraan toewy om die gebied rond-om haar huis te verfraai, en reeds drie dekades rehabilitasiewerk doen, is die hele Noorsekloof vanaf Noorsekloofstraat tot De Reygerstraat met dennebome besoedel.

“Ons kap uit waar ons kan, maar dit is nie moontlik om oral uit te kom nie,” sê sy. “Dit is ’n deurlopende proses. Sodra dit reën, skiet die sade van die keëls oornag op.

“Die uitkap van dié bome, dra die goedkeuring van die Kouga-muni-sipaliteit en natuurbewaring weg.”
