KOUGA Municipality has brought light to more households, with the switching on of electricity at the new housing development in Kruisfontein, Humansdorp, last week Wednesday.

Executive Mayor Horatio Hendricks officially switched on the electricity to 154 homes at the “Kruisfontein 391” RDP development.

“We are very aware of the life-changing impact electricity has on the general livelihoods of people. That is why we left no stone unturned to ensure that these residents do not go through the rest of winter without electricity,” he said.

The switch-on was initially scheduled for the previous Friday but had to be postponed due to problems with the electrical connections to the houses. The connections were installed by a contractor of the provincial Department of Human Settlements.

“I want to thank our municipal teams for helping to correct the problem even though the error was not ours. For us, what was most important, was to ensure that residents get the service that is due to them.

“We are happy that we could keep our word and that the electricity has been switched on. More than that, we are pleased to see how happy this has made the beneficiaries,” said Hendricks.

The settlement is part of the 391 houses being built in Kruisfontein. The electricity installation will happen in phases as the units are completed and handed over to beneficiaries.

The Mayor had switched on electricity to 116 households at the Donkerhoek informal settlement two weeks prior.

“We have budgeted almost R10 million in the current financial year for further electrification projects in Kouga,” he said.
