KOUGA’S Employment Equity Plan is setting the tone for new appointments at the municipality.

Executive Mayor Elza van Lingen said the municipality had been without an approved Employment Equity Plan for seven years.

“We set this right in June when the Council adopted a plan for the municipality, as is legally required. Appointments are being made in line with the plan,” she said.

The municipality made 30 new permanent appointments from January to October this year. Twelve of the appointments would be classified as “black”, 13 as “coloured” and five as “white”.

A total of 45 EPWP workers were contracted in this same period, 22 of whom would be classified as “black”, 22 as “coloured” and one as “white”.
