Gear up for the annual star-studded Midnight Express Mountain Bike Race that is set to take to the dirt road next month - a thrilling new experience on a bike.

Competitors must arrive before 22:00 on February 2 in the quaint Karoo town of Steytlerville. Here they they can enjoy the strong coffee and vibe at the start line, before jumping on their bikes at midnight, and enjoy a hearty breakfast in Patensie 129km later.

The route starts off on a gravel road with a gradual descent to the first waterhole at Bucklands Farm. Leaving Bucklands Farm, riders will continue to the base of the Grootrivier Poort for the second waterhole and then start the roller-coaster climb to the mighty Poort to the third waterhole.

From there it is a downhill run into Patensie.

The race is open to all riders.

The entry fee is R695 for solo riders and R1 250 for a team of two riders. Event organisers, Red Cherry Adventures, also offers a no hassle car transport option - they will arrange to get competitors’ vehicles from Steytlerville to Patensie at R800 per vehicle.

No accommodation is needed.
