Festive season stats sizzles

FOUNTAINS Mall in Jeffreys Bay boomed this festive season, drawing record turnouts.

According to Fountains Mall General Manager, Jeanette du Toti, the mall, now in its eighth year, posted an increase in both foot traffic and turnover for the December 2015 period.

“Visitors to the Mall increased by 4.1%, while its turnover increased by 3% year on year,” says Du Toit. “We are extremely pleased. If you take into account that the Mall did not have the added benefit of visitors who visited the Mall last year during the three day period without electricity, the fact that Baywest Mall was not open last year December and the beautiful weather which normally affects the number of visitors, the Mall performed exceptionally well.”

Fountains Mall was blessed once again in that they did not experience any armed robberies, and even the number of petty theft incidents declined from the previous year, according to Du Toit.

She is cautiously optimistic about the prospects for 2016. “Our economy is going to be volatile for at least the next couple of months, impacting on distributable income and consumer spend. We expect lower profit margins and turnovers to be flat compared to previous years. However, with both a new hospital and high school under construction on the Mall’s front steps, a whole lot of new marketing opportunities and increased customer base will be created.

Fountains Mall will continue with their marketing efforts in 2016 to attract visitors to the Mall. “The very popular teas for our pensioners will resume in February, with monthly events being planned and even a competition on the cards later in the year,” says Du Toit.

. According to Kouga Municipal spokesperson Laura-Leigh Randall, Dolphin Beach as well as all the surrounding beaches in the Kouga region, were the fullest they have been in a number of years.

“All our caravan parks were fully booked,” says Randall.
