IT is in her DNA to help others.

Lorinda Maritz, owner of Aqua Spa, is not only teaching six struggling women the art of beauty, but she is also teaching them how to dream again.

With a passion for God, women and beauty, she reached out to six women from the informal settlements of Jeffreys Bay, Humansdorp and Hankey respectively - taking them under her wing and training them to be qualified beauty therapists.

Sibongile Mutambo, Thabisile Polani, Connie Bobo, Nandipha Thimbela, Morencha Witbooi and Dolly Makele - who were all looking for a job and an opportunity to uplift themselves - would never have dreamt that their lives would change to such an extent.

Apart from Bobo and Witbooi, none of these women has ever dreamt of becoming a beauty therapist. Thimbela was looking for a job as a security officer just to put food on the table, while others were selling clothes from home to earn a living.

Now, five months later, they are not only excelling as beauticians - especially massage therapists - but they are also enjoying every moment and know that they have found their calling in life.

To them it is not a work, it is living out their dreams.

According to Maritz, the profession of massage therapy is growing rapidly, and as such there is an increasing demand for professionally-trained therapists.

“One morning God woke me up with the message: You say you love women, why do you not train those less fortunate?” says Maritz who was looking for massage therapists at that time.

“It suddenly dawned on me, I need hands and these women need an income. It was such an amazing feeling when I came to realise that.

“I am extremely grateful that I have been blessed with the opportunity to train these wonderful women.”

According to Maritz, they have achieved and mastered a lot in just a few months. “They started off by learning the techniques of massage therapy. From there they progressed to body exfoliations and pedicures.

“I am so proud of what they have achieved in such a short period of time.”
