Gear up for Zuurbron Biathlon

HOP on your mountain bike and hit the dirt road this December - and don’t forget to put on your running shoes.

The Zuurbron Biathlon, in aid of the Stul-ting Sports Development Fund, will take place at the Zuurbron Bike Park on December 19.

The biathlon consists of mountain biking and trail running and participants can compete in three age categories; u.12, 13 to 16 years and 17 years and older.

The u.12 group will leave the starting blocks at 09:00 for their 4.5km mountain bike and 4.5km challenge, while those between 13 and 16 years will hop onto their mountain bikes at 09:30 for the 9km ride which will be followed by a 4.5km run. Participants in the 17 years and older category will start their 20km mountain bike ride and 10km trail run at 10:00.

Online entries are available at and entries close on December 15. The entry fee for individuals is R200 and R300 per team. Late entries will be accepted on the day at the venue and a penalty fee of R50 will be applicable.

Prize money to the value of R6 800 will be up for grabs and the first three boys/ men and girls/ women to cross the finish line in each category will receive a medal.

Proceeds raised will be used to assist learners in Stulting who do not have the financial means to attend sport events and tournaments. It will furthermore be used to assist financially constraint learners with sport potential and those who have been selected to represent their provincial and national teams.

The Stulting Sports Development Fund is managed by the school’s management team and all proceeds to the fund are recorded in the school’s annual audited financial statements.

The Zuurbron Bike Park is situated at the Zuurbron Farm, 13.8km from Humansdorp on the R330 towards Hankey.
