ON November 14, St Francis resident Peter Bosman (86) became one of the oldest parkrun participants in South Africa to finish his 50th parkrun, earning his red 50 shirt. What makes this achievement more noteworthy, is that his personal best time for the 5km event is 45 minutes and 38 seconds.

Bosman did his first 5km in 2013 in a time of 1 hour 7 minutes, and gradually improved his time from week to week. He is the 36th St Francis parkrunner to have joined Club 50 (50 parkruns).

Two members, Pam Stark and Felix Muchika, recently joined Club 100 after completing 100 parkruns.

Since St Francis parkrun started on July 13, 2013, some 2 083 different runners have completed 12 165 runs covering a total distance of 60 825km. St Francis parkrun is a popular venue for parkrun tourists, and large crowds are expected over the coming holiday season.

On Saturday Tim Briscoe (VM65-69) was first over the line in 19:16, followed by Jannie Venter (VM35-39) of Jeffreys Bay AC in 19:36 and in third place was Felix Muchika (VM60-64) in 21:14.

Suretha Verwey (VW45-49), also of Jeffreys Bay AC was the first lady home (4th overall) in 21:46, followed by Stephanie Arndt (VW50-54) in 22:45 and Sanet Du Toit (VW40-44) (Unattached) third in 24:06.

St Francis parkrun is a weekly 5km, timed, free and open to all run or walk at the St Francis Links at 08:00 on Saturdays.
