POTENSIAAL wat werklikheid kan word: dít is die passie van Eric van Rooyen (37), nuwe adjunkhoof van die Laerskool Jeffreysbaai.

Sy hartsbegeerte is om deur ontwikkeling - akademies, fisies en emosioneel - leerders toe te rus om hul volle potensiaal te bereik.

“Waar ek vandag in die onderwys is, is pre-sies waar ek veronderstel is om te wees,” sê Van Rooyen wat verlede Woensdag by die skool aangesluit het. “My passie is kinders en dit is waarom ek hierdie werk doen.”

Hy sê hy het min twyfel dat die Here hom in die onderwys wil gebruik.

Van Rooyen, wat in Despatch grootgeword het, het sy B.Com Ed graad aan die Universi-teit van Stellenbosch behaal. Hy het daarna vir ’n tydperk in London, Engeland skool gegee en het vir die Sport for Christ Action South Africa (SCAS) gewerk.

Sy onderwysloopbaan het verder ’n draai in Rustenburg en Ermelo gemaak, voor hy en sy vrou, Ankie, na Kareedouw verhuis het. Daar is hy as adjunkhoof by die Hoërskool Paul Sauer aangestel.

“Ek was baie gelukkig by die skool, maar het gevoel dit is tyd vir ’n nuwe uitdaging,” sê Van Rooyen.

Hy het aansoek gedoen vir die pos as die adjunkhoof van die Laerskool Jeffreysbaai.

Benewens vir sy pligte as adjunkhoof, gee hy Afrikaans, Natuurwetenskap en Biologie.

Hy sê hy is al van kinds af mal oor Jeffreysbaai. Hulle het gereeld hier kom vakansie hou.

“Ek is lief vir die see, die buitelug en avontuur,” sê Van Rooyen wat daarvan hou om aktief te wees en voluit te lewe.
