IT is a pleasure and honour to congratulate Jeffreys Bay on winning the Kwêla Town of the Year title for 2018.

There is an old African proverb that states: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

Jeffreys Bay’s victory highlighted just how true these words are.

The town owes its victory to a campaign that focused on bringing together all people from Jeffreys Bay and beyond.

The fact that we won, shows just how successful the campaign was and how far we can go, as a town and region, when we join hands and walk together.

As the newly-elected Mayor of the Kouga region, it fills me with great hope for the future. Jeffreys Bay’s victory was also a sweet, but sad, moment for Kouga as the campaign was started by my predecessor, the late Elza van Lingen.

It was her dream that Kouga would become the best-run municipality in the country.

For Jeffreys Bay winning the Town of the Year title is a big step in the right direction.

The free marketing, worth R1-million, will boost the Tourism industry, not only in Jeffreys Bay, but to all our towns, each with its own unique attractions.

I am certain Elza is smiling down on us from heaven.

Let us continue walking the walk together and make Kouga the best.

Horatio Hendricks

(Kouga Executive Mayor)
