JBay Bowls Club Open Day huge success

DESPITE misty conditions, the Jeffreys Bay Bowling Club Open Day on May 20 attracted 48 non-bowlers eager to learn to play bowls.

“After being shown the basics of the game, the newbies were divided into teams and proceeded to play games of two bowl trips,” says Keith Wakelin from the bowling club. “It was a struggle in the beginning, with the pupils learning that it is not as easy as it looks from the side-lines.

“However, they soon got the hang of it, and quite a few showed some real talent.”

Bowlers, new and old, were treated to a boerewors roll. There was also a lucky draw where 12 people received prizes of wine and chocolates.

“It appears that everyone who participated had a good time, and the club has already received some application forms from some of the participants,” says Wakelin.

Those who were unable to attend the open day, but would like to try out the enjoyable game of bowls, can contact Petro Toerien at 082 824 1098.
