WITH only four days left, locals and visitors can look forward to double the star-studded fun and adrenalin-packed activities.

With virtuoso surfing performances in flawless four-to six-foot waves, the world’s top surfers kicked off the fifth annual JBay Winterfest at Supertubes during the anchor event of the festival, the Corona Open JBay.

The Corona Open JBay has a window pe-riod until July 23.

Despite the cold, wet and windy weather, the Cold Water Swim Classic saw top local and national swimmers take to the frigid water of Marina Martinique on July 16.

But the fun and action are far from over. The jam-packed annual JBay Winterfest programme offers something for old and new over the next couple of days.

Locals and visitors can look forward to the star-studded Oakley X-Over that surfs off today, followed by the first-ever JBay Loggers.

Also on the programme is the Endurade JBay X Trail Run, Kite Festival, JBay Windfarm Mountain Bike Classic, Skins Fishing Competition, and Funduro.

Oakley X-Over

The multi-discipline Oakley X-Over, powered by Sharp, is set to test top-athletes’ mettle in surfing, mountain-biking and golf on July 20 and 21.

First-time supreme athletes AB de Villiers, Jean de Villiers and Schalk Burger will be joined by Dale Steyn, Ryan Sandes, Raynard Tissink, Ruan de Smidt, Garreth McLellan, Greg Minnaar, Lance Isaacs, Nick de Wit, Kerim Fitzgerald, Bob Skinstad, Butch James, John Smit, Seabelo Senatla, Tonderai Cha-vhanga, Jordy Smith, Tom Whitaker and Ryan O’Connor.

The Friday will see the start of the fiercely-contested surf event at Lower Point in Jeffreys Bay. The first heat will hit the water at 08:00.

The athletes will then head over to the St Francis Links Golf Course for their nine-hole tournament before the points are tallied to determine the overall winner.

JBay Loggers Classic

International and local fin sliders are set to take to the clean walls of Lower Point in Jeffreys Bay at the inaugural JBay Loggers Classic 2017 on the weekend of July 21 to 22.

Presented by Vodacom 4U, this unique surf-lifestyle event is hosted by the single fin slinging crew of Loggers Union.

Promising a weekend of perfectly peeling point waves, an incredible beach vibe, a wholesome food market and performances by some of SA’s best musical talent, this competition is not about ripping waves apart in a desperate bid for points.

It is a classic exploration of the roots of surfing from drop-knee turns to hanging five and ten, as well as everything else that makes logging smooth and graceful.

Divisions for the event include Men’s Pro, Men’s Amateur and Women’s Open.

Endurade JBay X Trail Run

Athletes can put their endurance to the test at the annual one-of-a-kind Endurade JBayX two-day/ three-stage trail run from July 21 to 23.

Sponsored by Nutritech, the unique Endurade JBayX entails three individual 20km trail runs - with all three runs starting 12 hours apart.

Covering a total distance of 60km, the event will test the mettle and endurance of all participants.

This year, three new spectator-friendly 20km routes have been added to the programme.

There will also be a 10km and 5km trail run on July 23 at 09:00 and 10:00 respectively. These two events are suitable for families, friends, supporters and first-time trail runners.

All the trail runs will start and finish at the Winterfest Hub at Lower Point in Jeffreys Bay.

Featuring a 25km fun ride, 50km marathon and 85km ultra-marathon, the event caters for mountain bikers of all fitness levels. This year’s event that sees participants racing through the Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm, boasts some exciting additions and changes.
