ONWETTIGE karwagte se dae is getel.

The nuwe Kouga-raad het hande met die polisie en sekuriteitsmaatskappye geneem om die ‘euwel’ hok te slaan.

Kouga-burgemeester Elza van Lingen sê dat rolspelers en karwagte onlangs ’n vergadering by die Jeffreysbaai Polisiestasie gehou het.

Daar is aan die karwagte verduidelik dat dit onwettig is om geld te vra vir karre-oppas as hulle nie vir die taak geregistreer en ge-kwalifiseer vir die taak is nie.

“Ons beoog om karwagte met basiese seku-riteitsopleiding deur PSIRA te help. Die wat die opleiding suksesvol voltooi, sal as parkeerassistente kan werk,” verduidelik Van Lingen.

Sodra hierdie proses afgehandel is, sal ‘onwettige’ karwagte ‘n boete van tot R350 opgelê kan word. Indien hulle weier om die boete te betaal, is die hof hulle voorland.

Van Lingen sê sy het intussen ook opdrag gegee dat karwagte wat in die openbaar dronk is, beboet moet word.

Volgens inligting wat by die vergadering bekendgemaak is, maak karwagte tussen R80 en R350 per dag.

Die burgemeester sê die karwagte by die vergadering was tevrede met die plan en het aangedui dat hulle dit sou verwelkom om verantwoordelikheid vir ‘n toegewyde parkeerarea te neem.

“Die raad ontvang gereeld klagtes oor karwagte en smouse. Ons gee graag inwoners die versekering dat ons oplossings vir hierdie probleme sal vind,” sê sy. “Ons gaan begin deur geregistreerde karwagte en smouse slegs by bepaalde plekke toe te laat. Sodra die projek suksesvol op Jeffreysbaai van stapel ge- stuur is, sal ons dit na ander dorpe uitbrei.”
