THE Kouga Local Tourism Organisation (KLTO) scooped the award for Best Local Destination at the Gauteng Getaway Show held at the Ticketpro Dome in Randburg, Johannesburg from September 23 to 25.

The KLTO, represented by Esti Stewart and Renee Scheepers, assisted visitors on the 7 Wonders of Our World stand, hosted by the Sarah Baartman District Municipality. The stand scooped the award for Best Local Destination from exhibitors from all the provinces, and was commended for the spirit of the vo-lunteers working at the stand.

The Kouga Tourism Routes stand, a joint effort of the KLTO and the Kouga Baviaans Surf and Safari Association (KBSS), was a hive of activity with various competitions on offer for visitors. Sarah Jane Swanepoel, Chairperson of KBSS, Eric Stewart and Maresa Meyer represented the Kouga area at the stand.

The Getaway shows, held in Somerset West and Johannesburg annually, are the top consumer shows and it is vital for Kouga to promote the area as the preferred holiday destination to visitors.

“We appreciate the fact that the Kouga Municipality makes it possible for us to attend these shows,” says Stewart, Marketing Director of the KLTO. “We really pull out all the stops to make the most of these opportunities, and where we had to explain to people where the Kouga is a few years ago, the destination is now well established and we can just continue building on our efforts of the past.”
