ELEVEN positive cases of Covid-19 have been identified in Kouga since the start of the nationwide lockdown eight weeks ago.

Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks, said there had been a lull in confirmed cases for more than two weeks but that another resident from Humansdorp had tested positive for the coronavirus on Friday last week.

“The latest patient lives and works in Humansdorp, contrary to the initial Facebook rumours that someone in Jeffreys Bay had tested positive,” he said.

“We would like to appeal to members of the public not to post or share rumours of possible positive cases, as this leads to unnecessary panic.

“Please allow the Department of Health the opportunity to first verify the information.”

He said the patient did have family in Jeffreys Bay, who had all been tested as part of the contact tracing undertaken by the Department of Health.

“All these test results have come back negative.”

The latest case brings the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases to 11 - one in St Francis, nine in Humansdorp and one in Hankey.

Hendricks said the first case in St Francis Bay, as well as eight from Humansdorp, had already recovered while the latest test results for the patient from Hankey were being awaited to determine whether she could be removed from the “active” list.
