KOUGA Municipality successfully hosted this year’s national Blue Flag season launch at Dolphin Beach in Jeffreys Bay in October.

The event was attended by Tourism Minister Tokozile Xasa, as well as all municipalities and entities that received Blue Flag status for the coming summer season.

Dolphin Beach at Jeffreys Bay once again got the nod to fly the Blue Flag, joining 43 other beaches, seven marinas and 11 sustainable tourism boats around South Africa.

Another addition to Kouga’s achievement was the St Francis Canals, which received Blue Flag Marina status for the first time.

Kouga Mayor Elza van Lingen said the Blue Flag programme was part of the municipality’s ongoing efforts to grow Tourism in the area.

“Our preparations for the upcoming summer season are also on track, so as to ensure that the municipality is ready for the influx of visitors expected in all our towns,” she said.

She said the Department of Roads and Public Works would be repainting traffic circles and lines along the main access roads in Jeffreys Bay.

“We have also requested that those at St Francis Bay be done, but unfortunately, the Department will only be able to do so in the new year.”
