Kouga to celebrate Madiba’s legacy

FOUR big programmes will take place in Kouga over the next few days in celebration of Nelson Mandela Day.

Nelson Mandela Day is celebrated annually across the world on 18 July, the birthday of South Africa’s founding father.

Kouga Executive Mayor Daphne Kettledas said the municipality would be marking the day by hosting and partnering in four programmes aimed at changing people’s lives for the better.

The first programme will take place at the Kruisfontein Civic Centre in Humansdorp at 10:00 on July 14, with Social Development MEC, Nancy Sihlwayi, leading a roadshow to introduce the Department’s nutrition programme, called the “Community Nutrition Development Centre” (CNDC), and the Winter Feeding Programme to communities.

“The CNDC programme aims to fight poverty and boost food security by teaching and encouraging communities to produce vegetables that will be used to feed themselves and their families,” the Mayor said.

The second programme will take place on Sunday, July 17, and Monday, July 18, when Clr Timothy Meleni hosts his annual Nelson Mandela Day Outreach at Tokyo Sexwale and Pellsrus.
