DIE “Moeder Teresa” van die Gamtoosvallei is Sondagaand in ’n motorongeluk dood.

Alet Ferreira (45), ’n voormalige onderwyser aan die Laerskool Gamtoosvallei, het Sondagaand tussen Patensie en Gonnakop verongeluk, sê sers. Majola Nkohli, polisiewoordvoerder.

“Die ongeluk het omstreeks 20:30 op die grondpad in die rigting van Gonnakop na Patensie gebeur. Die oorledene het vermoedelik beheer oor die wit Toyota-bakkie verloor.”

Ferreira is op die toneel dood verklaar.

Haar vyfjarige dogter wat in die bakkie was, is ongedeerd, sê Nkohli.

Nuus van Ferreira se dood het gister op sosiale media versprei en boodskappe van skok en hartseer het ingestroom.

“Die hele vallei het met groot hartseer van haar dood verneem; sy was die vallei se Moeder Teresa,” sê Christelle McCabe, hoof van die Laerskool Gamtoosvallei.

Ferreira het verlede jaar ná meer as tien jaar as onderwyser in die skool se Dink-en-Doen-afdeling vir peuters en gr. R-leerlinge uitgetree.

“Alet het die laaste tyd by ons afgelos. Dit is die soort mens wat sy was. Sy sou altyd hulp in die gemeenskap verleen waar sy kon.

“Sy was vreeslik kreatief en op haar gelukkigste as sy ander kon help. Haar dood laat ’n groot leemte in ons gemeenskap.”

Op Ferreira se Facebook-blad het boodskappe van simpatie ook ingestroom. Ellen Hancke het geskryf: “Aan Pietlam, Danie, Anna, Dawson, Wimpie en die res van die familie . . . alles sal nou anders wees, maar weet net dat hierdie kosbare mens baie meer mense se lewe aangeraak het as wat julle ooit kan weet.”

Die gedenkdiens vind op Vrydag om 11:00 by die Quagga Kerk in Patensie plaas.
