THE first Oakridge Academy Soccer Tournament took to the sports fields at Global Leadership Academy (GLA) in Jeffreys Bay earlier this month – seeing over 160 players from across Kouga taking part.

The 33 teams played five-a-side games of 10 minutes each, giving the players an opportunity to play against teams from other communities.

Participating in the tournament were 10 teams from Oakridge Academy – including their inspiring and feisty Oakridge Academy all-girl soccer team – a team from Graslaagte Primary School in Humansdorp, four teams from Victory Christian School in Jeffreys Bay, three teams from JBay Academy, three teams from GLA, six teams from Euro Soccer Schools in Port Elizabeth, three teams from Soccercise Starz in Jeffreys Bay, two teams from King’s College in Jeffreys Bay and the Barcelona Eagles from Jeffreys Bay.

King’s College was named the u.9 winners, followed by Soccercize Starz in second place. In the u.13 division, Euro Soccer School took first place, while Soccercize Starz came second.

“We would like to thank all our supporters for making this day such an amazing success and a true example of how sport can bring together a community in an atmosphere of fun and friendly competition,” said Lynnette Schulz, Director of Oakridge Academy.

“There is no doubt that Kouga has great young soccer talent and we are proud to have hosted this soccer tournament that has brought together learners from so many different communities in our area,” Schulz added.

“Our heartfelt gratitude to GLA for the use of the sportsgrounds, and to Soccer Starz, Euro Soccer Schools from Port Elizabeth and the Barcelona Eagles who brought not only their teams but also provided referees for all the games.”
