A young man on his way to work, was hit off his bicycle by a man driving a bakkie who failed to stop at the scene on the weekend. The victim, Nyasha Dzuramira, was on his way to his place of work at the Marina Wharf Restaurant after he ran an errand. The establishment owners, Michael and Michelle Petrelis, posted on social media that a white bakkie knocked their employee off his bicycle and “proceeded to attempt to drive over him, before fleeing the scene at around 12:00 outside Marina Martinique.”“Shame on you! Your victim’s name is Nyasha and he is a human being. A more pleasant, honest and hardworking young man you will not find. He works for us and we sent him to the store when the incident occurred.”Fransie Beukes comments that the young man passed them on his bicycle just outside the Marina - probably just before it happened. “People drive like idiots on that road to the Marina Martinique. Overtaking where they are not supposed to. And it’s mostly these big bakkies. I saw it three times yesterday.”Answering readers who ask how no one ‘saw anything’, Petrelis says, “It happened very fast. All he could relay to us is that he was knocked off and it was a white bakkie with a male driver. They knocked him off, almost drove over him and sped away. He was very shook up and in a lot of pain. The bike that belongs to another staff member, is a write-off.“This happened while he was on shift at the Wharf. He wasn’t too far from the restaurant and got up pushing the mangled bike back. We attended to him as soon as he got back, even though we were in the middle of an event for 400 people. He was very shook up and the bike is a mess.”Karin Prinsloo commiserates, “So sorry this happened to this young man. People just don’t care about anyone other than themselves anymore! How do you knock someone off his bike with your car and ‘NOT’ stop? It’s unfathomable!”The victim was advised to open a case.
