THE entrance to the 800-year-old Big Tree in the Tsitsikamma section of the Garden Route National Park will soon boast an up-market coffee and curio shop - the Big Tree Craft and Curio Shop.

Construction of the building, set to be operated by a private party in compliance with strict environmental standards maintained by SANParks and the Green Operation Strategy, is set to be completed by July this year.

According to SANParks Garden Route National Park Regional Communications Manager, Nandi Mgwadlamba, the Big Tree Craft and Curio Shop, will play a vital role in helpig to increase the number of visitors to the Garden Route National Park.

It will furthermore supply healthy snacks and some of the best hot and cold beverages in the area.

The shop will also specialise in selling quality and unique local and internationally manufactured craft and curios.

Apart from the coffee and curio shop, further upgrades include a state-of-the-art entrance gate, improved ablution facilities, a tourist information centre and an activity hub that will act as a booking facility.
