THE vibe, vibrance and verve of the new hotspot, Awethu Restaurant, in Chris Hani Street, Pellsrus, Jeffreys Bay mingle with the aroma of hearty local cuisine.

A first for JBay, Awethu - the brainchild of local property developer Nicholas Melck and owner/ chef Dallas Land - is the embodiment of their passion for good food and all the people of JBay.

Awethu’s Facebook Page describes the venture: On a bustling street in a quaint neighbourhood of Jeffreys Bay’s thriving township full of beautiful people, history and magic, with a stunning ocean view and the smell of lekker kos in the air, find yourself sitting comfortably at a table with your friends and family at our restaurant.

On the opening weekend, Awethu was bust-ling.

Patrons were sipping their drinks, waiting for the mouthwatering smells to realise in the form of pap balls and tripe, spicy chicken li-vers or succulent braai meat served on wooden platters.

Children and dogs were running in the street, neighbours sat and watched stoically as cars lined up and gushed excited diners. The quiet area lit up.

Dallas cooks with passion right before your eyes, while waitrons serve visitors with bright smiles. The food is brilliant, the people are beaming, as koeksisters and ice cream with a salted caramel sauce perfectly rounds off their mea l.

Awethu is based on the ideal of creating a place for local families to feel comfortable, included, important and empowered.
