THE Kouga Council is making good on its promise to strengthen the municipality’s dilapidated fleet.

Two new refuse compactor trucks and two new mesh trucks were added to the municipal fleet in November, at a cost of almost R7-million.

“The state of the municipality’s vehicles was one of the first big shocks we received when we took over governance in August 2016,” Executive Mayor Elza van Lingen said.

“A five-year fleet replacement plan was developed .

The new trucks are part of that plan to ensure that the municipality has the vehicles it needs to provide quality services to communities.”

The municipality also held a public auction in October to dispose of redundant vehicles and office equipment.

More than R1,5 million was raised. A Komatsu TLB fetched the highest price, of R190 000, on the day.

“The proceeds of the auction will contribute towards the municipal budget and assist with service delivery,” Van Lingen said.
