NSRI to recruit youngsters

2018-02-01 06:01

WITH their 2018 Junior Academy Programme around the corner, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Station 37 Jeffreys Bay is looking for youngsters to join its family.

Boys and girls aged 13 to 15 can join the local NSRI for an interesting year of sea rescue activity. Participants will be exposed to a wide variety of topics: boating knowledge, nautical terminology, navigation, first aid, being water wise, rip currents and fire.

They will only go to sea on one of the Sundays when the weather and sea conditions permit. A highlight for participants will be a cruise around the bay with NSRI Station Commander Rieghard Janse van Rensburg.

The programme will increase self-confidence and provide the opportunity to move on to become a junior crew trainee upon reaching the age of 16.

The Junior Academy Programme will kick off on February 11. The programme runs from 16:00 to 17:30 on Sundays during school terms. An informative workshop for parents will take place at the NSRI from 11:00 to 12:30 on Saturday, February 3.

For more information, contact NSRI Junior Academy Coordinator Ken Clegg at 082 608 7187.
