Old fleet threatens service delivery

2018-07-26 06:01

KOUKAMMA Municipality’s ageing fleet is threatening to bring service delivery to a standstill.

During an oversight inspection visit to the municipal storage yard in Joubertina, Tsitsi-Kouga Constituency Leader MP Malcolm Figg, found five essential municipal vehicles in total disrepair: three bakkies, a garbage removal truck, a grader and a trailer for refuse removal.

According to Figg, some of the vehicles are without wheels and overgrown by grass.

KouKamma Municipal Manager Pumelelo Kate, says the municipality is in the process of securing a loan to purchase four new vehicles: two for sanitation and two for refuse removal.

“The paperwork just needs to be finalised,” says Kate. “It is anticipated that the vehicles will be purchased by the end of September this year.”

Also in the pipeline is a refuse truck and Volkswagen Polo. It being in the final stage of procurement, it is estimated that the truck and vehicle will be delivered at the end of August this year.

“We are hopeful that with the improved fleet, our response time to service delivery will also improve,” says Kate.
