2018-06-28 06:02

“Sy was ongelooflik pligsgetrou.

‘We owe it to the people of Kouga’

MORE than 1000 mourners gathered at Mentor’s Country Estate outside Jeffreys Bay in April to bid farewell to Kouga Mayor Elza van Lingen.

Van Lingen passed away on 19 April after a long battle with cancer.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane described Kouga’s late Mayor as “inspirational and impactful”.

“She had a strong sense of duty and showed profound courage with a raging disease. Kouga has not just lost a Mayor, it has lost a mother and the DA has lost a shining star who knew what it meant to be a public servant.”

Kouga Municipal Manager Charl du Plessis praised Van Lingen for her incredible work ethic.

“Even when the end was nearing, she was strong and clear about what she wanted from those of us who remained.

“Her words to me were: ‘Get over it and get on with the job at hand. There is a lot of work to be done. We owe it to the people of Kouga’.”

“Sinetyala kubantu baseKouga”

“KUNGAPHAYA kwewaka labazili abathe bangungelana e-Mentors Country Estate, eJeffreys Bay ngomhla we 23 April, ukuza kuthi ndlela-ntle kuSodolophu waseKouga uElza van Lingen.

“U-Van Lingen ubhubhe ngomhla we-19 April emva kwedabi elide nomhlaza.

Phakathi kwabahloniphekileyo ebebekho kule nkonzo ibiyiNkokheli ye-DA uMmusi Maimane, omchaze lo ongasekhoyo “njengoyinkuthazo nonezingqi ezivakalayo.”

“IKouga ayiphulukenenga nje noSodolophu, koko iphulukene noMama, kwaye i-DA iphulukene nenkwenkwezi yayo ekhazimlayo ebisazi ukuba kuyintoni ukumela abantu.”

UManejala kaMasipala uCharl du Plessis yena uye wambonga ngokuthanda umsebenzi.

“Amazwi akhe kum, mhla endityhilela ngesiphelo sakhe; wathi: “Yeka ukutefa wenze umsebenzi lo. Kuninzi ekufuneka kwenziwe. Oko kubafanele abantu baseKouga’.”
