Over R300 000 raised in support of fire victims

LISTENERS to Algoa FM donated a total of over R372 496 in response to an appeal made by Algoa Cares Rescue to support survivors of the devastating fires, which recently blazed through parts of the Kouga district.

In addition, scores of blankets, clothing and food parcels were donated.

Algoa FM arranged drop-off sites at Walmer Park Shopping Centre, Baywest Mall, Greenacres Shopping Centre, Clearly Park Shopping Centre and the Algoa FM studios.

“The reach of the call to action by Algoa Cares Rescue totally exceeded our expectations,” says Dave Tiltmann, Managing Director of Algoa FM.

“We received a national response from listeners who made selfless donations in aid of those affected by the fires and we can’t thank everyone enough.”

The food parcels, clothing and blankets that were donated at the drop-off sites were packaged and given to the South End Fire Station, which acts as a relief centre during times of disaster.

The relief centre managed the distribution and delivery of the collected donations to Thornhill. The cash was donated to the Kouga Municipality Fire Relief fund to ensure that those who have been affected by the fire receive the necessary aid.
