GOLF is a serious game. Ask anyone who does battle with that little white ball and those rolling green fairways. But just now and again someone finds a way to lighten it up. The Kromme Enviro-Trust has done it with this coming Sunday’s Par 3 Amazing Race. It’s a game of golf, yes. But it’s going to be played on the Par 3 course laid out within the normal St Francis Links course, and it’s going to have a few extra challenges as well. Did you ever play an entire hole with your putter, or take a drive with a left-handed club? The outcome is quite interesting. And simultaneously with the golf, players will be going on a treasure hunt, looking for the answers to clues about the environment around them. Quite a challenge. Which is why teams can add a third non-golfing member to focus on the clues. There are prize hampers for the winning team for golf only, and for the winning treasure hunt team, and for the team with the best combined score. There are plenty of other prizes too, with a special nod to any kids who take part. With a whole sheep as a raffle prize and a canal cruise on auction, there’s something to appeal to everyone. Most of all, there’s a huge amount of fun - Jeff Clause of St Francis Links says, “This is the way to start the holidays, lots of laughs and some good solid short-game practice too.”The event is to raise funds for a permanent walkway between Granny’s Pool and St Francis Main Beach. There will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m. this Sunday, 18 December, at St Francis Links. Enter online at www.stfranciskrommetrust.co.za or contact the Pro Shop at 042 200 4500.
