Project launched to build playground in Gill Marcus

THE Humansdorp Police Station recently launched their Rapid Resolution Response Project (RRRP) aimed at building a playground for over a 1 000 children in Gill Marcus, Humansdorp.

According to Sgt. Monja Nel, the community wants to morally uplift the local children by redirecting their attention from drugs and crime to play and education. “The RRRP committee members would like to create a playground for the youth in the area, so that they can use their energy in a positive way - playing in a safe environment,” says Nel.

“By creating a safe and secure playground, the negative obstacles that contribute to the moral decay of our youth will be reduced. Furthermore, good friendships will be built among one another.”

According to Nel, RRRP members will be responsible for the upkeep of the playground and an adult will be present at all times when children are playing. There will also be special holiday programmes such as playball, soccer, rugby and netball, as well as a variety of creative programmes and life-skills training such as CPR, self-defence and road safety.

“It is our vision to have the playground completed by the end of November for the December school holidays,” says Nel.

To make this project become a reality, the RRRP committee members are in need of pallets or wood, flowers and grass, stones or pebbles, screws and nails, a slide and a sign-board. For information, contact Nel at 082 697 5936.
