Quiksilver Summer Series starts December 16

2015-12-10 06:00

THE 9th Quiksilver Summer Series, proudly sponsored by Quiksilver and hosted by St Francis Sport, will kick off on December 16 with an MTB night ride and trail run.

This year contestants can look forward to two new events - a choice between swimming or Stand Up Paddling (SUP) and a colour run on New Year’s Day.

The MTB night ride and trail run will leave the starting blocks at Picazzo’s at the Village Centre at 19:00. The event consists of a 5km run, followed by the popular “who can do the most 5km loops in 60 minutes” MTB ride. Headlamps are required.

On December 17 the action will move to Sea Glades Drive for the Quiksilver Summer Series Duathlon at 08:00, which consists of either a 500m swim and 3km run or a 1km swim and a 6km run.

This will be followed by the 15km and 55km Quiksilver Road Race at the Cape St Francis Resort at 08:00 on December 18 and the 5km and 10km fun run from the SuperSpar Village Square at 08:00 on December 21.

The Quiksilver Extreme Duathlon - a 15km MTB ride and 5km trail run - will take place at St Francis Drive at 08:00 on December 22.

On December 23 the Quiksilver Open Water Swim will take to the water at 08:00. The route is from the Granny’s Pool to the beach at Port St Francis and back.

New on the calendar is the Full Moon Penguin Waddle at 18:30 for 20:00 on December 26. The entry fee will be cash donations towards SANCCOB. The distance of 5km will start at the Cape St Francis Main Beach Parking area and follow the shoreline. Headlamps are required.

The very popular Quiksilver Quadrathlon will take place from Sea Glades Drive at 08:00 on December 29 December. Individuals and teams can challenge each other over a 12km cycle, 300m swim, 3km run, and a 3km paddle.

December 30 will see another new event, the Quiksilver Swim or SUP at Sea Glades Drive at 08:00. Distances are Bank 2 Bank (under 12 only), 500m, 1km, 2km and 3km. Participants can choose to swim or use a Stand Up Paddling Board.

The annual Quiksilver MTB Challenge will take place from Pomme Frittes on the corner of the R330 and the Oyster Bay Road at 08:00 on December 31.

The Series will come to an end on January 1 with the 5km New Year’s Colour Run from Picazzo’s at 10.

The entry fee for all the events is R40 for juniors and R60 for all over 17. For more information, contact Eric and Esti Stewart at 082 394 7363 or 073 825 0835. Alternatively, send an email to info@stfrancissport.co.za. Entry forms are available at St Francis Tourism, Custom Bikes and Picazzo’s. Registration can be done on the day 60 minutes before each event.
