IT is only eight months since the fire of June 10, 2017 and Woodridge College & Preparatory School has the completion of the first phase of rebuilding the school in sight.

The restored School Sanatorium, a state-of-the-art facility, opened its doors at the beginning of the school year, while the Preparatory School Headmaster, Trevor von Berg, the Head of Boarding, Nicholas Kock, and Grade 6 teacher, Stuart Falconer, have all taken occupation of their new and refurbished homes. In addition, the new section of Kohler residence with two new dormitories, a common room and ablutions has also been completed.

The main Astro has been replaced, while two new practice Astros have been created, one at the Preparatory School and the other at the College. Once the safety netting is in place, the new Astros will be handed over by the respective contractors. Further improvements include two new car parks and the renovation of some of the existing boarding facilities to be in keeping with the newly built amenities.

In the pipeline for completion very soon are several staff houses, the workshop and the Preparatory School girls’ dormitory and classrooms. The trusses of the Great Hall have been raised and immense progress made on the building of the new dining hall, reception area, computer block and the new Art, Music and Drama Centre. It is estimated that these facilities will be completed during June and July.

College Headmaster, Derek Bradley, said, “Management and the Woodridge Trust are pleased with the progress of the rebuild and the speed at which the project has moved. Having taken this opportunity to improve the spatial order of the campus and facilities in general, we know that the campus will be world-class once the first phase of the rebuild is complete.”

One of the important aspects of the rebuild project, aptly named “putting the wood back into Woodridge”, has also gained steady momentum with landscaping and greening to further enhance the campus and its beautiful location.
