THE top rated women on the Championship Tour include Stephanie Gilmore from Australia, Lakey Peterson from USA, Tatiana Weston-Webb from Brazil and Carissa Moore from Hawaii.

Live Webcast

The Corona Open JBay also enjoys a live webcast that is beamed to hundreds of thousands of viewers worldwide in real time. The webcast has multiple camera angles and a full complement of commentating staff to bring spectators the blow-by-blow breakdowns of the plays taking place, the world title ramifications, as well as any other interesting side stories going down.

There will be a full shark mitigation system in place for the contest - including shark spotters, drones, spotter planes, and jet ski surveillance.

With US$100 000 for first prize, the competition is fierce.

Last year’s winner, Filipe Toledo from Brazil, surfed amazingly with new school air surfing winning the heats. Durbanite Jordy Smith was the only surfer to score 20 points out of a possible 20 - a perfect heat score.

Events galore

Apart from the adrenaline-filled surfing competition, sport enthusiasts can look forward to a festival line-up that caters for young and old.

Now in its sixth edition, the JBay Windfarm MTB Classic will once again offer something for all mountain bike skill and fitness levels, featuring a 25km fun ride, 50km marathon and 85km ultra.

The event will showcase the finest trail riding the Eastern Cape has to offer.

Riders taking part in all three routes will be racing through the Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm, riding along roads that are interspersed by 80m tall wind turbine towers, spread more than 500m apart.

The Endurade JBay X Trail Run has grown in leaps and bounds and 2018 looks to be the breakthrough year for this race.

The run is unique in concept, entailing three individual 20km trail runs, all starting 12-hours apart, showcasing the best of the Jeffreys Bay area.

The total distance covered will be just over 60km.

A 10km and 5km fun trail run will also be presented.

Both these events will be suitable for families, friends, supporters and first- time trail runners.

Desmond and the Tutus, Shadowclub and aKing are only some of the top acts scheduled for the Corona Sunset Sessions at the JBay Winterfest.

Featuring a combination of twelve bands and clubs, the complimentary Corona Sunset Sessions will take place at Pepper Street from July 5 to 7 and from July 12 to 14.

Other happenings at the JBay Winterfest 2018 include the Cold Water Swim Classic at Marina Martinique on July 8, the Skins Fishing Competition at Kabeljous on July 14, and the Funduro at Mondplaas on July 7.
