SA Holstein National Championship to be held at Crossways Farm Village

2016-03-10 06:00

THE SA Holstein National Championship show, hosted by the SA Holstein Cattle Breeders’ Society, will be held for the first time in the Eastern Cape.

The event brings together farmers and breeders of the Holstein breed from across South Africa.

This year’s championship show will be held at Crossways Farm Village near Thornhill on March 18 and 19.

The internationally renowned judge, Callum McKinven from Canada, has been selected to appraise the cream of dairy cattle at this year’s event. McKinven previously judged in over 28 countries around the world, including the World Dairy Expo, the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair and at the World Holstein Conference Show.

There will be an Agri Exhibit with stalls from the Holstein Industry products, as well as organic beef and lamb for sale at wholesale prices, Core Merino clothing and accessories made from 100% wool and other agricultural products at the BKB stall and Cheese and other dairy products from Woodlands Dairy.

The Crossways Country Kitchen, voted one of the top 10 restaurants in the Eastern Cape, will be offering gourmet pizzas, breakfast rolls and other delicacies along with cold drinks, beer and wine in the main tent.

Other events for the day include an outride cycle by 3 Rivers trails that will start at 06:30 with R50 day fee and a fun trail run (6km and 12km) at 09:00, across the development and neighbouring farm on the Saturday, by Free Spirit Adventures.

Entrance to the event is free.
